Morphcat’s Triple Jump is a new NES Game Launching on Kickstarter

Morphcat Triple Jump

Morphcat’s Triple Jump is a new multi-cartridge platforming game collection featuring three of the best homebrewed NES titles of 2023.

What makes the games by Morphcat particularly exciting for us is that they are true NES titles, playable on original hardware.

The small independent team has just launched their Kickstarter campaign to help bring this collection to physical editions.

The three titles features on the Triple Jump multi-cart are Micro Mages: Second Quest, Spacegulls, and Böbl.

Micro Mages: Second Quest is an expansion of their original Micro Mages title, a wall jumping platforming game.

This title offers up to four player co-operative play. There are 26 new levels, added difficulty, and several new game modes introduced in this second iteration of Micro Mages.

Spacegulls is a Mega Man style platforming experience for solo or tag team players. And there are over 80 levels to explore.

And Böbl is a physics-based metroidvania where you play as a bubble exploring a mysterious maze of waterways. Game play is challenging, yet very sublime. I highly recommend this one.

As part of the Triple Jump collection, Morphcat also plans on releasing a fourth bonus game that they are describing as a co-op boss rush experience. This will be for 1-4 players.

Multiplayer

Morphcat Triple Jump

Morphcat is particularly interested in couch co-op multiplayer games.

While all of their titles can be played by a solo player, they wanted to give that extended functionality of multiplayer.

And if you’re wondering how you can play with up to four players on an NES, that usually has two controller ports, Morphcat explains that.

The NES can be extended with the FourScore multiplayer adapter that allows you to connect up to four controllers. The games are compatible with this adapter as well as the Hori 4-player adapter released for the Famicom.

So as you can see, it is possible to play Morphcat’s Triple Jump with up to four players on an original NES console. This sounds like an absolute blast.

Physical Editions

Morphcat Triple Jump

Morphcat has turned to Kickstarter to allow them to produce physical cartridges and boxes for their new multi-cart collection.

The cartridge stickers and boxes will feature a unique holographic print, exclusive to the Kickstarter backers.

The standard edition comes in a black cartridge, and the limited editions come in a really cool transparent purple option.

There is also a full printed instruction booklet, and some awesome A2 sized posters for each of the three titles.

Impressions

It is very exciting times for retro gaming fans, with tons of new games and products being released almost daily.

Just in the past few months, we’ve seen a new Game Boy game from McDonalds and a new Rugrats Game for the NES, to name a few.

And we’ve got so many unique ways to play those retro games, whether you want to emulate or play on real hardware.

We are super happy to add a new physical NES game to that list of small victories for the retro community.
