It's eat or be eaten isn't something that you would usually hear Samus Aran say. Nor is 'I will make it home, even if I have to feed off my enemies.' This Metroid game feels like it has a darker tone to it, and honestly, I'm here for it. It's launching on January 28th, and it's the latest 2D side-scroller in the Metroid series, with some scenes that seem to transcend 2D and see Samus running at enemies head-on.

The cutscenes in this game look amazing, as do some of the new abilities we've seen, which seem to drain her energy (hence needing to feed off the enemies she comes across). The cinematics feel like they're going to keep the action pumping all the way through the game, and if you've always loved the original 2D nature of those original Metroid games, then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with Ravenous when it launches next year.

Honestly, I've always been more of a Metroid Prime fan, just because I love the worlds that Nintendo created in those fully 3D games. But Ravenous has intrigued me, especially seeing a scene where mysterious enemies that look like a cyber version of Raiden from Mortal Kombat appear to kill her, and then she just cracks back on fighting again. Samus is indestructible! Also, is that a massive blade I can see on her arm? (I know it is; I'm just creating tension).

I've had to watch this segment a couple of times now because there was so much going on, and luckily I don't have long to wait until January to check it out. My birthday is in January, so at least I know what I'm putting on my list!
