Just when you thought you couldn't get any more into Mario Kart World, a free update that brings SNES tracks into the game has brought a new retro feel to it that I'm loving. The 'peculiar-looking terrain' that the famous Nintendo Direct voice talks about is the courses from Super Mario Kart, the very first Mario Kart game that ever released on the SNES. The courses have just been there in Mario Kart World, waiting for you to spot them, and now you can play them in VS mode in a new update.

You'll be able to play through classics like Choco Island, Ghost Valley, Vanilla Lake, and more in updated versions of the tracks that have a much more traditional 'Mario Kart' feel to them, as opposed to the new vibe of Mario Kart World. There are 10 courses in total, and items come from Question Mark panels on the ground just like in the original game.

There are other updates to the base game mentioned in the Direct, but this is the retro news that we're all about. And the good news is that the free update with the inclusion of the SNES tracks is available to download later today.

So, if you're looking to put some retro goodness into your evening Mario Kart session and don't fancy dragging out the SNES or firing up an emulator, then you can enjoy new and improved versions of those original tracks while using your favourite characters (old, new, and with the custom get-ups you've unlocked in Mario Kart World) on your Nintendo Switch 2!
