I know that everyone is getting ready to see what jewels Nintendo has in store for us at the Nintendo Direct today, but I want to turn your attention to an incredible feat that has just happened with the PS2. X user OptiJuegos has got Minecraft running on the PS2 and working on real hardware!
The official version of Minecraft was released in 2011, with Minecraft Pocket Edition (otherwise known as MCPE) released in the same year. OptiJuegos has used MCPE 0.6, an update for the Pocket Edition which released in 2013, and managed to get it running on a console that released 13 years prior. And they've got it running at over 30fps.
And yes, as someone has written in the comments, we've got Minecraft PS2 running at 30fps before GTA 6...

Although OptiJuegos has made tons of different optimisations to get it to run at 30fps, they've stated that the trickiest part was working with the PS2's 32MB of RAM. It's a neat project and puts Minecraft one step closer to the likes of Doom in regards to seeing if we can get it playing on every console and electronic device across the globe.
It's not too long ago that I wrote about Minecraft being ported to the Sega Saturn, the GameCube, and the Dreamcast. Now that OptiJuegos has brought the PS2 into the mix, I'm wondering if someone might try to remake it for the Master System or even the Atari 2600. We've already had a Game Boy demake, so anything is possible!
