Thief: The Dark Project originally launched on PC back in 1998 and was met with great reviews and offered a unique stealth experience that became one of the first PC games to use light and sound as a specific game mechanic. Though it was renowned for being hard to see due to all of the dark levels, so it was a game many played at night, with their faces a few inches from the screen.

That said, it's back, and physical versions of the remaster are coming to PC and consoles, all thanks to Nightdive Studios, Eidos-Montréal and Atari. It will come in both standard, steelbox and deluxe editions on December 3rd, and they can be pre-ordered today for those wanting to secure one and to experience this game with all-new graphics, features and a brand new campaign called The Tarnished Mirror.

"Made by the acclaimed creators of Thief: The Black Parade, one of the most ambitious fan-made expansions in PC gaming history, The Tarnished Mirror is designed to feel immediately familiar, serving as a bridge between Thief: The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age. Steadily introducing new factions, environments and Lovecraftian horror, this premium story expansion is built entirely using the technology and visual language of the remaster, pushing scale and atmosphere beyond the original game’s limits while preserving its identity.  This collaboration marks a rare industry moment, with Nightdive and Eidos-Montréal welcoming a community creation directly into official canon" states Eidos. Thief: The Dark Project Remastered is also compatible with player-created mods, including The Black Parade.

Within The Tarnished Mirror, a seemingly straightforward theft spirals into imprisonment, uneasy alliances and a descent into a drowned, R’lyeh-like necropolis. Players will experience an expanded enemy roster, ambitious level design and a pure Thief experience that descends into unsettling, otherworldly horror.

In addition to a Standard Digital Edition ($29.99), a Deluxe Digital Edition ($34.99) is available on PC and consoles that includes an art book, the official soundtrack and an excerpt of an upcoming novelisation of  Thief: The Dark Project. Physical Editions of the remaster for PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch 2 are now available for pre-order here. The Steelbook Edition ($39.99) includes the standard game, Steelbook and a printed manual. The Deluxe Trapezoid Edition ($69.99) includes the standard game, printed manual, Steelbook, and a Remaster Diary in a recreation of the trapezoid-shaped “big-box” retail packaging of the original 1998 release. The Standard Physical Edition is $29.99. All physical versions for the Nintendo Switch 2 are playable on the original Nintendo Switch.

The game will launch on December 3 for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG, in addition to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch owners can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for free!
