Rumours Suggest Ocarina Of Time Remake Is Coming Today, & I Couldn't Be Happier

Seb holding Ocarina of Time

I've just turned my laptop on, and while I'm going to find out unequivocally in about 4 hours time whether the rumours are true or not, I need to talk to you about this - today could be the day when we finally get a date for the Ocarina of Time remake. Today could be the day when we see some gameplay and get a feel of what Kokiri Woods, Hyrule Field, Death Mountain, The Water Temple, and every other part of this game look like remade for the Nintendo Switch 2.

I think it's no secret that I love this game - I've played Ocarina of Time more times than I can count (which is a bit of a tongue twister) on multiple consoles. My latest playthrough was on Nintendo Switch Online, and while I enjoyed it, I'm ready to see the game with a brand new shine to it in a new remake, not a remaster.

I can't stress that enough, Nintendo - this better have been remade from the ground up and look as good as the new Star Fox does, otherwise there will be trouble!

So what would I want to see from a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake? Honestly, I wouldn't want them to change anything apart from the graphics. Maybe there could be some optional quests that you could complete like finding more Cuccos or a new trading sequence, but to be honest, I just want the same story I know and love with crisp graphics that blow me away.

The story of Ocarina of Time is the greatest game story ever told, which is why it's the highest-rated game on Metacritic. I think back to reading about it in Nintendo Official Magazine before the game came out, immersing myself in the pictures of Hyrule and the story that Link was about to embark on, of the Master Sword and the adventures that would await me. I remember pulling the Master Sword out for the first time and becoming the Hero of Time, and thinking what the journey to becoming a man would be like in real life too.

Ocarina is a poignant game for many reasons - it helped me face challenges, it helped me test my resilience with problems, and it taught me not to give up. The fact that a whole new generation of gamers (who, let's face it, might not enjoy the old graphics that make us feel nostalgic) can get to experience that same story with Skulltulas that look realistic and fiery chasms that make you think twice about jumping towards a snarling Lizalfos is amazing.

We'll know soon enough whether the remake is happening and what it looks like. I'm just hoping that we see Volvagia in the trailer if it happens, and that Epona makes an appearance too. I guess if she doesn't, I can make do with seeing her in the Legend of Cheese mini film with Wallace and Gromit instead. Still, seeing her escape Lon Lon Ranch in 4K is going to be amazing!
