Leak Suggests Mortal Kombat 12 Might Be A Mortal Kombat 1 Remake

Recent leaks suggest that the anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 might actually be a Mortal Kombat 1 reboot/remake.

With so many Mortal Kombat rumors going around lately, everybody pretty much expected that we’d hear about MK12 sometime soon.

But a recent leak presented by WhyNowGaming suggests that NetherRealm, the incredible team behind the recent MK franchise installments, might actually be making a reboot/remake of the first game in the series.

The following tweat from the official Mortal Kombat Twitter account certainly is quite telling when you think of it that way:

In that video, we can see the clock hand nearing “12”, and skipping right past it to the “1”. Taking that clock analogy even further, at “12”, the clock resets. Interesting indeed.

Mortal Kombat is also currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. So it would be a great time to return to the first game and give it a total remake.

It was a tweat from user @billbil_kun that went all in on this idea and claimed the knowledge about the upcoming release.

Tough to say why it would come to “next gen” consoles AND Nintendo Switch, but avoid the previous generation consoles. But that is a detail specifically outlined in the leaker’s tweat.

Early Thoughts

Mortal Kombat 11 by NetherRealm

Look, we are wild about the MK franchise, and anything from NetherRealm is sure to be absolutely incredible.

All of their entries to the franchise were at the top of our list of the best Mortal Kombat games. So we’ve got blind faith in their abilities.

Whether their plans are to take the franchise one step forward and offer new characters and story or to take us back to the origins… we’ll be happy.

Whatever they do, we know that the graphics will be top of the line, the mechanics will be silky smooth, and the fighting will be as good as it gets.

So maybe returning to the original game and seeing that entirely remade by the best is a good idea.

Because this is still rumor, there is no clarity on whether this would be a reboot or a remake.

But considering that NetherRealm’s first MK title was a reboot, we would guess a remake would be most likely.

So far, these are only speculations, but it’s still fun to imagine the possibilities.

Surely this “news” has a lot of people eager to hear more. Including all of us here at Retro Dodo.
