The RG280M is the latest retro handheld to leak out of China and if you’re a fan of the RG350M then this could potentially be a cheaper, more portable alternative.
There’s not a lot of information regarding the RG380M, literally just a video showcasing the promotion video, so this article is going to go through that video which you can see below.
- J4770 Dual Core 1GHZ Processor
- 2.8″ IPS Display (320 x 480)
- 2500mah Battery
- USB-C Charging
That’s all we know so far, and from what we’re seeing is that the RG280M is for those that want a more portable form factor, with one analogue stick and most likely a smaller price tag.
It has four shoulder buttons, ABXY buttons, very good analogue sticks and grips at the back from comfortability. If it has the same build quality as its older brother, the RG350M, then this could be a seriously great handheld, as long as is between $50-$70.
What Can The RG280M Emulate?
So far, the RG280M has been advertised to emulate only a few games, but it has similar specs to the RG350M, so below is what we can imagine it emualting:
- Playstation 1
- CP System
- NEOGEO Pocket
- Gameboy Color
- Gameboy Advance
- Super Famicom
- Mega Drive
- Sega Master System
- Game Gear
- Poke Mini
- Wonderswan Color
Officially it has been advertised to emulate Playstation 1, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Super Famicom, Famicom and Mega Drive. We can imagine these will work great on this handheld, and for those wanting something more pocket friendly, this is one you need to consider.
How Does It Feel?
We have no idea, but if it has the same shell type as the original RG350M then it’s going to feel great. It comes in 3 different colours, silver, dark grey and this mutli-color purple blue gradient that we’ve never seen before. A possible gold one may be floating around the internet too.
It’s very similar to the RK2020 design, just with less power and better build quality. We’re not really sure who it’s aimed at, but many of us can’t afford the large price tag of the RG350M so if the RG280M is listed under $70 we can see this flying off the internet shelves.
It has two SD card slots at the bottom, one for the pre-installed firmware and one for your ROMs. This size, and resolution of the screen is going to be perfect for gameboy advance and playing the best Gameboy Color games.
That’s as much information as we have at the moment, but the video below goes through a few more pictures and incredibly jittery shots of the new handheld. We can’t wait to see what the RG380M has to offer.
But it seems to be taking a step back in time. There’s nothing new about this handheld, simply less, and probably cheaper. So those who already have a RG350M, RK2020 or Bittboy Pocket Go V2 probably shouldn’t downgrade.
Rumours have it that it will go on sale on the 20th June 2020.
