If you had asked me when the Switch first came out if we would ever see the original Halo: Combat Evolved on the Switch, then I would have probably laughed. I know there's a strong chance we might get a Halo collection on the Switch 2, but the Switch one - it just felt like sacrilege.

And then I spent time talking about Ocarina of Time arriving on the Dreamcast and Fortnite on the PS1, and anything became possible. When the retro gaming community set their mind to something, magic always happens. Modder @Generalkidd has got Halo: Combat Evolved running on the OG Nintendo Switch without any cloud streaming. And you know what, it's actually playable!

How did they do it, I hear you ask? Generalkidd used Halo: Combat Evolved through an Arm64 build of Xbox emulator Xemu. It obviously requires you to have a modded Nintendo Switch in the first place, and it isn't something that everyone is going to want to go through. But the fact that a game so intrinsically linked to Microsoft is on the Switch is wild.

It's so wild that Brian Jarrard, Halo Studio's Community Director, posted a Will Ferrell GIF with the caption 'I like you, but you're crazy.'
