More and more Nintendo games are getting the recomp treatment of late, with a recent influx of PC ports coming to us with Claude or other AI programmes registered as contributors. This latest port of SoulCalibur II for the GameCube, titled 'RingOut' on GitHub, brings the quintessential version of the game to PC as a static recomp, meaning that once you've uploaded your legally acquired ROM, you'll be able to open it as if it were a stand-alone game rather than opening up an emulator.
And I say quintessential because this is the version with Link in it, and from the videos shared by Renpou.com on X, it looks pretty impressive. Still, AI has been used for a heck of a lot of this project, which feels a bit of a shame.

According to the GitHub page, the port runs 'as native code inside a Dolphin-derived runtime that provides the graphics, audio, input and hardware emulation around it.' The game is fully playable with no glitches and works on Steam Deck as well as PC and has fully functional Netplay.
Some of the other main features listed in the port are an HD Texture Pack, controller remapping, free camera, save states, cheat codes, and more. It's an impressive hack, but rather naughtily, the creator jackpoison-prog has omitted to mention Claude's involvement in the contributors section and put it at the end of the credits section at the bottom of the GitHub page.
The AI wrote and debugged a large share of the code — the settings overlay, controller remapping and cheat pages, the free-camera wiring, the FMV replacement path, several recompiler codegen fixes and the packaging — under direction, with testing and decisions made by a human.
That's a lot of parts made by AI, which means there could be some unpredictable elements to the game that are still yet to be uncovered.
