It was only last week when Mangmi teased a first look at their new AIR Y and AIR Y Pro handhelds, soon to be released in an attempt to compete with TRIMUI's new Brick Pro. Now it seems like they are trickling out new bits of information, just like Retroid did with the Pocket Nova recently.
Mangmi's newest bit of information about the upcoming handhelds is regarding their screen, with a full reveal of specifications, size and resolutions. And I must say, it's looking like a nice display, but it all depends on how Mangmi prices this thing.
They state this display is for the "Air Y Series", which is likely going to be the same display for both the Air Y and Air Y Pro. So, first up, it's going to be a 4.2" IPS touch display with minimal borders.

The touch display is interesting to me, as it's something I don't personally use often on other verticals. This also makes me believe this will be an Android-based handheld, too, which, yes, would come in handy. The resolution shown is 1280 x 960, an organic 4:3 aspect ratio that will scale your games nicely, taking advantage of the entire screen.
It also comes with 500nits of brightness, 381 PPI and 110% sRGB, likely making it a bright display for use outside with well-saturated colours, but only time will tell. We've seen "good" displays in the past come with issues and light bleed, so it's best to wait for our full review before pulling the trigger.

When Mangmi announced the AIR Y, I was hoping for a strong $99 vertical handheld, but these screen specifications could prove me wrong, seeing as it will be Android-based, feature a touch screen, and a high-resolution one at that. Perhaps they'll suprise me, and I hope they do, but this could be moving above the $100 price tag.
No doubt Mangmi will reveal pricing and more specifications over the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that and join our free weekly newsletter to not miss out on it.
