Well, it looks like the rumours were true, even down to the piece size. The LEGO PlayStation 1 is coming, and two images of the box have been leaked via BrickTap, showing the nostalgic console design alongside some hidden features that will certainly please retro gamers who have good taste in games.

According to BrickTap, these images are official and show the LEGO PlayStation 1 in all of its glory, featuring a single controller, a disc tray that opens and two hidden compartments that show off two dioramas, one featuring Ape Escape and the other Gran Turismo, two iconic games from the system. Similar to what Mattel Bricks has done with the upcoming Xbox building set.

BrickTap states that the title of this set is "72306 Sony PlayStation", featuring 1,911 pieces, a retail price of $160 and a release date of October 1st, meaning it's likely going to be announced very soon, seeing as they are already announcing other LEGO sets being released on 1st Ocotober such as the new Wallace and Gromit set.

What's neat about this set is that not only can you open up the disc tray to take a look inside at the dioramas, but the dioramas can also be slid out to be shown in full, featuring a small race track for the Gran Turismo scene, and Ape Escape featuring a tropical map with a small figurine to resemble the iconic apes. There are even custom pieces to show you the logo and name of the game too.

The controller itself can be removed from the console, the eject and power switches can be pressed, and no doubt there are one or two hidden easter eggs deeper in this set that aren't yet spoiled. It's a great-looking set, and one retro gamers will certainly enjoy building. It really seems like this year has delivered some really good retro gaming-focused LEGO sets, and this is yet another one to add to the list.

Some of you may ask how legit these images are, and honestly, we only have BrickTap's history of leaks to go off, which i'll admit, he does have a good track record for leaking things early, so I do believe this is the real thing, and likely made by AirBricks95, who still refuses to answer our questions regarding making this set for LEGO, so I think he may be under NDA and not allowed to talk to media, which is completely respected, and fair! No doubt we'll see this officially announced soon by LEGO themselves.
