LEGO have firmly thrown their blocky hats into the retro gaming arena of late, with some amazing sets themed on classic Sega and Nintendo consoles and games. You've only got to look at the LEGO Game Boy and the Sonic the Hedgehog sets to see how invested they are in nostalgia. But a lot of the recent sets have been for adult hands only, more collector's pieces rather than toys.

It's nice to see that the Danish blockbusters have finally created a retro gaming handheld that can be used by everyone aged 8 and up, however, with a brand new LEGO Creator set coming on January 1st that celebrates all elements of Retro Gaming by giving you 3 designs in 1 set.

It doesn't matter whether you're a kid growing up playing with your parents' Game Boy Advance or a nostalgic adult yearning for the days of early PC gaming or arcade machines; there's something in this set for you.

First up, you can build a retro handheld with three game cartridges, essentially squares that slot into the handheld to show different on-screen pictures. There's one that resembles Mario squaring up against a Pokey (in my mind at any rate), one that looks like Tetris, and one that has a generic space rocket on it. The handheld has 2 buttons and 2 joysticks, annoyingly at the bottom of the console just like the ANBERNIC RG34XXSP,.

If you're bored of the handheld, you can have a computer with a keyboard and mouse, or an arcade machine with two joysticks and arcade buttons. They all look amazing, but understandably, I'm most excited about the prospect of showcasing the handheld off in my office because we've always got one glued to our hands these days! Any of these designs would make a great looking showpiece or fun toy, which is what LEGO is about, after all!

The set itself (31380 for the LEGO heads out there) consists of just 268 pieces, and you can find out more info on the LEGO website!
