Just when you thought that all of the Zelda news had dried up (kidding, we had some this very morning about Ocarina of Time heading to the PSP), we hear about a new mashup heading to the New Nintendo 3DS - The Legend of Doom, bringing Doomguy into Hyrule with action on both of the 3DS' screens.
The project has been teased on EstebanPdN/s X account and Patreon page, with the dev uploading development notes to their account for Patreon users ahead of a public release in a couple of weeks. From what I've seen so far with limited access, there's what looks like a Moblin heading towards Doomguy, who is holding a sword and shield. The graphics look like a mixture of MS-DOS DOOM and the original Zelda for the NES, creating an FPS hack-and-slash game with a very nostalgic feel to it.

Speaking about the project on X, EstebanPdN says that they chose the 3DS to get this game up and running as it has way more power than the standard DS, and that the old DS just can't provide the power that this version of GZDoom needs. I can't imagine the gameplay is too taxing graphically, but getting something like this running with a fantastic interface showing a map, lives, and Doomguy wearing what looks like Link's trademark hat is all very exciting and a great achievement!
One thing that I picked up on in the comments section of the post is that Esteban seems to be very against the use of AI, which makes me think that they have created all of this from scratch themselves. I'm hoping that's the case, especially with the extensive developer notes they've uploaded to Patreon. I'm looking forward to diving into this in greater detail in a few weeks' time, but for now, you can find out more by signing up to Esteban's Patreon channel and playing The Legend Of Doom ahead of everyone else!
Oh, and if you never checked out my coverage of the Mario x Doom crossover from a couple of years ago, then you should definitely give it a look!
