I think we can all agree that Super Mario Odyssey changed the way we view Mario games from here on out. It brought so many new ideas and level-styles to Mario’s world, which is why we’re insanely excited for Super Mario Odyssey 2!
I know there’s always going to be a divide between those that prefer Mario’s 2D games and the 3D ones, but the 2D formula hasn’t changed that much bar new characters like Elephant Mario jumping into Super Mario Bros Wonder.
If you’ve never played Super Mario Galaxy before, then imagine if you stuck Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Galaxy into a cauldron and played the ensuing title.
Essentially, that’s Super Mario Odyssey in a snapshot.
Super Mario Odyssey will forever be one of the best Nintendo Switch games of all time, that much is clear, but will Super Mario Odyssey 2 knock it down a peg or two once it drops?
And after the release of Tears of the Kingdom, we’re all looking for the Odyssey to fly again now. Link’s had his time in the sun, and now Mario want’s to take your golden coins in exchange for a brand new adventure.
So, buckle up for all of the speculation, the sneaky rumours, and cold hard truths about Mazza’s newest adventure!

Everything We Know About Super Mario Odyssey 2 So Far

As you might imagine, the internet is awash with details on Super Mario Odyssey 2, and fans have been speculating wildly about what is next in the series. With trailers made by Mazza enthusiasts doing the rounds, there’s no shortage of love for the sequel, and it’s far too easy to spend hours searching down rabbit holes for nuggets of truth.
The main question we need to ask ourselves is this – is Super Mario Odyssey 2 going to launch on the Switch like TotK, or is it going to come with a brand new Switch consoles, the fabled Nintendo Switch 2.
And now that a we’ve got a July announcement rumoured after Switch 2 Dev Kit Leak, it’s looking like it could be.
Think about it; the Switch launched with BotW, and if Super Mario Odyssey 2 drops onto the Switch, then what will the Nintendo Switch 2 launch with?
Hang on… maybe Mario Kart 9. Now it makes sense why we haven’t seen that dropping on the Switch yet. Sneaky Nintendo!
What Can We Expect From Super Mario Odyssey 2 Gameplay?

Super Mario games have changed a lot over the years. From flying around in Winged Cap in SM64 to running around planets in Super Mario Galaxy, each evolution has brought lots of new surprises to the table.
One thing we’re yet to see though is having the ability to play with a friend.
It’s something that we’ve seen in the new Super Mario Bros. line, with up to four players heading out on side-scrolling adventures together. But having Mario and Luigi or Mario and Yoshi going up against bosses together, now that would be something.
This is one of the features that we hoped we might have seen in TotK, with rumours suggesting that Zelda would play a bigger part. Unfortunately, you’re still stuck saving her again, so there’s no points for guessing what part PEach might play in Odyssey 2 either.
This tweet from @Mattthasnocuts suggest that Super Mario Odyssey 2 has Luigi along with 20 playable locations. There are 18 Kingdoms in the first game, so that kind of tracks.
New Super Mario Odyssey 2 Levels

But what are the levels going to be like?
Well, one thing is for sure; Nintendo is going to have to pull out all of the stops to make these levels even more appealing than the first game.
Realistically, the gameplay style is going to be the same. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw the return of classic characters like the Pianta and Noki townsfolk from Super Mario Sunshine, as well as Toad and Toadette playing more prominent roles.
An open world Mario experience Would Be Truly Amazing, but I think that might be too far removed from the main formula. It worked for Zelda, but a Mario game where you don’t jump into paintings or head to new lands… would that be too much for fans to bear?
I think we can also assume that powering up the Odyssey with Power Moons is set to return. The stamina wheel and heart system from BotW returned in TotK, so we wouldn’t expect any of that to change.
The Main Super Mario Odyssey 2 Rumours

Cappy is set to return once more as Mario’s sidekick. If Luigi is coming onto the scene too, then you can expect Luigi to be able to use the same ability aswell. The same goes for Yoshi too!
Cappy, Lappy, and Yappy? I don’t make up the names, I just write about them.
One of the main rumoured elements to the new levels is more puzzles to solve, ala the Korok puzzles in BotW. I can imagine you and a friend (or multiple friends) hitting switches with their respective caps and morphing into switches and other items in order to free Power Moons.
I’ve saved the best rumour till last though, and this one piece of speculation with the most legs.
Players are set to be able to customise both the outside and inside of their ship, the Odyssey. We’re talking Animal Crossing style customisation where you can go to town on this thing.
Stick an exercise bike in there, paint it with the colours of the Italian Flag on the outside – the Odyssey is your oyster!
Super Mario Odyssey 2 Release Date

Super Mario Odyssey 2 is likely to be released Spring 2025.
That’s going off the chatter on the new game found on the Internet, and taking into account that Nintendo are late with all of their releases these days.
Just look at Metroid Prime 4 as a ‘prime’ example.
And, as we’ve said before, we’d bet good money that the game drops alongside what many are referring to as the Super Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario Odyssey 2 on the Super Nintendo Switch – now that’s something we can get fully behind!
When Did Super Mario Odyssey Come Out?
The first Super Mario Odyssey game released for Nintendo Switch on Friday 27th October 2017.
I remember it well, as I went home from work early that day with the flu…
Can I Play Super Mario Odyssey 2 With A Friend?
Unfortunately the first Super Mario Odyssey game was single-player only, but there are rumours that the new Super Mario Odyssey 2 will feature co-op gameplay.
Why Should I Play Super Mario Odyssey?
Super Mario Odyssey takes everything you know and love from previous Mario games and turns them up to 11. The new mechanic of Mario taking over objects with his cap is fantastic, and playing as a T-Rex really has its advantages.
The levels are superb, the graphics are phenomenal, and the storyline remains nostalgic while adding enough fresh elements in to keep fans hooked.
How Many Copies Of Super Mario Odyssey Sold?
Super Mario Odyssey has sold 26.44 million copies to date, making it the 5th best selling Switch game of all time.
If that isn’t enough reason for a second Odyssey game, then I don’t know what is!
When Is Super Mario Odyssey 2 Set To Be Released
Super Mario Odyssey 2 will most likely be available for purchase in Spring 2025.
