How many of you remember playing Sturmwind back when it dropped in 2013? It’s a shoot-em-up in the same vain as R-Type with vertical-scrolling features such as Xenon 2: Megablast, and thanks to physical indie publisher VGNYsoft, it’s coming back to the Dreamcast this year with pre-orders opening up on Wednesday 15th of May at 10 am EST. For UK readers, that’s 3 pm!

This incredible-looking and nostalgic shmup is set to drop on Dreamcast in physical form, and the Limited Edition box, which is limited to 500 copies, comes with some amazing extras including a limited edition VMU shell alongside a black silicone pad and D-Pad to slot into it. The fact that both the Limited and Standard editions come with a 24-page booklet just like in the old days makes me very excited – games just don’t feel the same without booklets these days, and reading about moves before playing the game was part of the whole new-game ritual!

Definitely Not a CD-R

One of the things I love the most about the advertisement above is the fact that VGNYsoft states that Sturmwind comes on a professionally pressed disc and ‘not a CD-R’, a little nod to the fact that Limited Run Games have been in hot water recently for pulling the wool over customer’s eyes. This whole set from VGNYsoft looks incredible and is the real deal, however, with the company highlighting that they use ‘media production factories, high-quality¬†packaging, and professional printers to create products just like they were released in 1999!’

Take to space in 16 levels, blasting enemies with upgradable weapons and a drone that you can customise as you work through the game on a mission to find mankind’s ancestral homeworld… Sturmwind. As the game is Region Free, fans from all over the world can order a copy of this title and play it on their Dreamcast no matter where they bought it from. Twin it with the wireless Retro Fighters StrikerDC controller to untether your gaming too, ducking and diving without having to worry about yanking your Dreamcast out of the cabinet by the wire and sending it flying across the room!

Keep an eye out on more news about the Sturmwind Dreamcast re-release and pre-order your own copy this Wednesday at 10 am EST by visiting the YGNYsoft website.
