The Dreamcast is really having the time of its life in 2026, isn't it? It's like we're living the 90s all over again, just with modern touches and upgrades that we never could have dreamed of back then. And now, I'm sitting here writing about an MMORPG that released the same year that the Dreamcast was discontinued which runs perfectly on the console - we're truly living through wild times!
Dreamcast afficionado Falco Girgis has taken to X to report developer Lobotomy's work in bringing Runescape to the Dreamcast, praising how fantastic it looks and plays. According to Girgis, Lobotomy has rewritten the 'rendering back-end to use our low-level PowerVR GPU driver in KallistiOS, boosting performance so far that he could even include per-vertex dynamic lighting as part of a real-time day/night system!'
Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the iconic 2001 MMORPG experience, Runescape Classic... NOW ON THE SEGA DREAMCAST!!!

The port has officially progressed from the obligatory "runs like crap, looks like crap, and needs a 32MB RAM expansion," phase, to the "omg this thing is… pic.twitter.com/4eouc2G46e
Lobotomy has managed to integrate the Dreamcast's keyboard and mouse peripherals (you can finally spend less time on Typing of the Dead now). There's also support for alternative dual-analog controllers if you have the correct third-party adapters and online play compatibility for private RuneScape Classic servers that you can access through multiple methods, though typically through the console's modem and software like DreamPi.
The Dreamcast has had a wave of games arriving on the system of late, with the likes of Star Fox 64, Minecraft, and Sonic Mania joining the ranks. It's become a bit of a legendary figure within the modding community of late, and it's nice to see new gamers discovering this console and giving it the attention it deserved back in the day!
