How long has it been since Donkey Kong 3 released? It's been 30 years, 30 long years since Dixie and Kiddy Kong set out on their SNES adventure. Now, after three decades, we're getting a fourth installment with all of the characters from the previous games and more heading to the party.
I've been watching the release trailer posted by Buiu Alves for the game and spotted Lanky and Chunky Kong in there which is a big win for me - Donkey Kong 64 is one of my favourite N64 games of all time, so it's nice to have them in there joining the party.
And speaking of 'joining the party', every character from the first three games including Rambi the Rhino and Squitter the Spider make an appearance in this game. It's almost like a 'best of' the Donkey Kong Country series with all the bits that made them great appearing in homage to the SNES, with different characters teaming up like Donkey and Dixie.
I love the Rare Logo turning into a 'K' logo for Kalango, as well as the caption of 'The Kongs Return' at the beginning of the clip too - it's all tapping into my nostalgia and making me want to grab my SNES and get playing.
I would love if this game was released on a cartridge that we could buy, but I think Nintendo would probably shut it down immediately if it was. I think it's more likely that we'll get the ROM as a download to play on original hardware via a flashcart like the Everdrive X6 (#aff), but having the entire gang back together on the SNES will feel fantastic.
The full game is coming this November, so keep checking back for more information as and when I get it!
