Retroid Reveals First Look At Pocket Nova Handheld

Retroid Reveals First Look At Pocket Nova Handheld

Well, the Retroid team weren't lying when they said more news is coming soon. It was only yesterday when they teased a dark image of the device, but today they've pulled back the curtains a little more to show off the first proper look at the new device.

Shared across their social platforms, Retroid gives us a first look at the Pocket Nova handheld, featuring a 4.5" AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 960 at a 120Hz refresh rate. This is similar to their older Pocket Mini device, but much bigger, as that was a smaller 3.7" AMOLED display.

This is certainly going to be a beautiful screen, and even its likely competitor, the AYANEO Pocket Air Mini, does not have an AMOLED display of this calibre, nor do any ANBERNIC handhelds, so immediately, Retroid is coming out the door swinging with this one.

The above image is all they have shared at this moment in time, but I'm confident they're going to release a lot more information over the coming weeks. But the image shown is looking very exciting, going for the full transparent look in all areas, even the D-PAD and buttons, which I believe is a first for Retroid.

It also shows the very small screen bezel, possible TMR joysticks, a curved shell, and front-facing speakers. Oh, and no glass front panel, which I know many of you will be happy to hear. Perhaps that trend is now disappearing, who knows?

What I do want to mention is that in the image shared, Retroid has added the text "No second morgage needed" which suggests Retroid could be making a "budget" device to compete with the like of AYANEO's incredibly popular Pocket Air Mini which I mentioned at the top of this article, that device starts at $129, but when it released was $69 for early birds.

I don't believe Retroid will go that low, but I do believe if they price it at $129, or in that area, it could be a very popular device that could makes it way into our best retro handhelds list, very easily, because we all know they're great at making retro handhelds.

But only time will tell; we've seen Retroid launch products with some bugs and dodgy screens in the past, so make sure to wait for our full review before pulling the trigger. We'll keep you updated with information about specs, pricing and release date when we get it. Make sure to subscribe to our free newsletter so you don't miss out.
