Anyone who had an N64 will have a soft spot for Pilotwings 64. I can remember looking at the box for my console (which I put back in the box every time after using it for the first couple of weeks and kept out by the TV like a trophy), and seeing the images for Pilotwings 64 on the box. It was an amazing launch title and showed us all just what the N64 could do, bringing us into the 3D era alongside Super Mario 64.
It might have only sold 1.1 million copies compared to SM64's 11.9 million, but it remains an important part of both the N64's and Nintendo's history - anyone who played the original on the SNES would have had their mind blown by the change in graphics and the newfound freedom they brought.

Com esse resultado, alguém pode criar uma versão nativa para PC e outras plataformas, sem emulação. pic.twitter.com/0T62FetMIS
And now, thanks to the efforts of gcsmith, the game has been fully decompiled so that it can be put onto other systems without emulation, following in the footsteps of games like Majora's Mask and Banjo-Kazooie.
Now that it's been decompiled from machine code into human-readable code for modders to adapt and add new quality-of-life features to, it's only a matter of time before we get versions for PC or other consoles like the Dreamcast. Like the other recompiled games we've covered here on the site, it would require a ROM of the original game to get everything working, but would run as a stand-alone game and wouldn't require any emulation.
Will you be downloading the recompiled version for PC when it arrives? Let us know in the comments!
