With over 4,000 games to choose from, the PS2 had one of the biggest game libraries of any console. There's no surprise that it remains the best-selling console of all time with a back catalogue like that, but after a quarter of a decade, you would be forgiven for forgetting the names of some of these titles, or that they even existed in the first place.
Game preservation is more important now than ever as we strive to keep the titles that shaped the world of gaming relevant and to keep older titles alive for younger generations, and thanks to PCSX2, over 99.5% of the PS2's back catalogue is now playable on PC.
That's a major achievement in terms of game preservation, with only four games not playable or perfect on the emulator: Final Fantasy XI, Marvel Nemesis – Rise of the Imperfects, DRIV3R, and World Series Baseball 2K3.
PCSX2 has long been our go-to PS2 emulator as it provides better results than the original machine could. Don't get me wrong, I'll always prefer physical media, but PCSX2 is an impressive tool and one that has had a lot of dedicated work to get it to this point over the years. Providing you have your own PS2 BIOS and legally acquired ROM files of your own games, you can experience your favourite titles upscaled to higher resolutions.
