Nintendo has updated its Japanese website and have seemingly confirmed several of Switch Online’s upcoming N64 releases will be appearing by the end of the year.
The page in question relates to software for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, Nintendo’s top-tier subscription plan that includes access to retro games from Nintendo 64, Gameboy Advance and the Sega Mega Drive.
Under the section entitled ‘Titles scheduled for release in the future’, Nintendo have now added 1080° Snowboarding, Harvest Moon 2, Star Twins and GoldenEye 007. All of these titles are due to arrive on the service before the end of 2023.
GoldenEye 64 has been available on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack outside of Japan since January, but looks to finally be arriving in Nintendo’s homeland on the 30th November alongside Star Twins.
The Best Of The N64
The end of 2023 looks promising for fans of retro games on Nintendo’s hybrid console so let’s have a quick dive into Switch Online’s Upcoming N64 Releases.
Before SSX blew players away on the PlayStation 2, the best way for virtual shredders to carve up the slopes was on 1080° Snowboarding. 1080° Snowboarding is still hugely playable with plenty of fun to be had barreling down mountains, either in single player or multiplayer.
Harvest Moon 2, a.k.a Harvest Moon 64, is one of the original farming sim games that captured players attentions and took over their lives back in 1999. The series features varied gameplay mechanics including farming, horse racing and of course, dating. Harvest Moon would go on to inspire the creation of the greatest farming sim of all time, Stardew Valley.
Star Twins is better known outside of Japan as Jet Force Gemini, and the game is confirmed to launch on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack next month. The third person shooter also originally released back in 1999 and saw galactic law enforcers attempting to stop the evil insectoid known as Mizar. Jet Force Gemini received overwhelming positive reviews upon it’s launch and currently sits pretty with a rating of 80 on Metacritic. Perhaps it’s greatest achievement however is naming one of it’s main characters, King Jeff.
Finally, the most famous of Switch Online’s Upcoming N64 Releases, GoldenEye 007 needs little introduction. Credited with kickstarting the modern obsession with first-person shooters, this James Bond blaster closely followed the plot of the GoldenEye film in it’s single player mode but truly left it’s impact with it’s local multiplayer offerings.
Verdict
All of Nintendo Switch Online’s upcoming N64 releases are stone cold classics and some of the best titles on the Nintendo 64.
Outside of Switch Online’s Upcoming N64 Releases, Nintendo’s future Gameboy Advance offerings for Nintendo Switch remain unchanged with F-Zero For Gameboy Advance and Golden Sun Unopened Seal still missing confirmed release dates.
