Dead Space is a creepy game. It's a fine example of the survival-horror genre, and it would have been so much cooler than having Snake or Q*bert on the 3310 when I was younger. Ok, the game wasn't around at the same time that I was making Nintendo ringtones by inputting numbers in the tone maker or writing 'hey u' by typing '4433999 88'. And if you're too young to understand what that is, then go ask your parents how they used to text.

Dead Space as a Nokia 3310 game isn't something that I had on my Friday bingo card, but here it is. The game has been out for a little while now and was made for the Nokia 3310 Jam, but now has an updated version that's playable.

I love the tagline that Davide Puato has put on the list - 'Experience the classic action survival horror through a tiny, mono-audio, 2-colour screen'. I mean, that would be enough to put some people off, but not this nostalgia seeker. And it's got nothing to do with the fact that its 95% less scary either... honestly.

The game has been made to run on Windows, which is fine, as I don't reckon that many people will still have a 3310 lying around in the age of smartphones and social media (although I for one would love to be off grid with a 3310 again!). Players can walk using the arrow keys, interact with 'Up', and aim with Z. Shooting and stomping happen by pressing X, and you can heal or use stasis by pressing C.

I've played this game a lot in the past, and seeing it on such a small screen as a side-scroller is so weird. It's still got the DNA of Deep Space, though, and it's another reason why I love the demak community so much. I love the ingenuity and imagination involved with taking such a beloved game and devolving it for a phone that came out years before. Plus, there's no AI allowed in game jam competitions either, which suits me down to the ground!
