Nintendo has filed a new trademark for Star Fox, indicting that a new game in the long dormant series may finally be ready to scramble out of the hanger.
That’s if the ruminations of known Nintendo leaker, Zippo, are accurate. Zippo’s latest blog post states a new Star Fox game is coming and presents some compelling evidence to reinforce their claim.
For starters, Nintendo have actually filed a new trademark for Star Fox in Brazil. The new application was registered with the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property on the 19th December 2023 and was first shared by Brazilian Nintendo indie journalist Felipe Lima.
The trademark includes the brand name ‘Star Fox’ and describes the current status of the application as ‘waiting for the deadline to present the opposition’, presumably allowing parties to oppose the new trademark.
Lima also discovered an international registration by Nintendo for a new trademark for Star Fox dated the 28th November 2023.
Star Fox For The Super Switch?
Zippo’s blog post about the new trademark for Star Fox doesn’t just cover the trademarks found by Lima, with Zippo’s own information offering more details on the unannounced game.
For starters, Zippo claims Nintendo are handling the development of the new Star Fox game exclusively and internally. Nintendo haven’t solely developed a Star Fox game internally since 1997’s Star Fox 64, with a wide variety of developers including Rare and Platinum Games working on the franchises’ later entries.
The long-time Nintendo leaker continues by speculating the new game will be a sequel that will have a substantial online multiplayer component and come to Nintendo’s brand new console within the next twelve months.
Fans of the franchise are hungry for another barrel roll with Star Fox and his crew, and so are we! Time will tell if Zippo’s information is accurate, but we’re crossing our fingers in the hope that we can take to the skies with Fox in a new adventure sooner rather than later.
