Sega fans eagerly awaiting delivery of the Game Gear Micro now have something else to get excited about; a Limited Edition Game Gear Micro dropping as part of an Aleste compilation!

When Sega announced that they had some big surprises up their sleeve, they certainly weren’t kidding.

Not only have we had the new Game Gear and the Astro City Mini, but we’ve also had teasers from the gaming giants themselves about a new Sonic game and a new batch of classic mini consoles!

To add to the excitement surrounding Sonic’s 30th Anniversary celebrations, Sega have added a fifth limited edition Game Gear Micro to their arsenal.

Four games from the classic Aleste collection and a brand new Aleste title will feature on the new handheld, with the Nintendo Switch and PS4 seeing physical releases too!

Here’s everything we know and what you can expect from yet another Sega gaming drop!

That could be the title of a movie!

Sega gamers will no doubt already know about the four Game Gear Micro consoles already announced earlier this year.

Black, Blue, Yellow, and Red consoles have been announced to celebrate 60 years of Sega.

Each console colour comes with a different set of games preinstalled, with many gamers hoping to bag all four in a bid to play all of the best Sega Game Gear games ever released.

Though with the release of the Aleste collection and the super-retro-looking white Limited Edition Game Gear Micro, there’s one more elusive console to catch before your collection is complete.

What Games Does The New Limited Edition Console Come With?

It’s an Aleste collection edition, so no guesses as to which game franchise will appear pre-installed on this console!

Sega Big Window

Back in the day, you could buy a magnifying screen for your Game Gear called the ‘Sega Big Window’.

It made everything on your screen bigger, just as if you were holding a magnifying glass over it.

The Game Gear Micro range is, as the name might suggest, very tiny, which is why Sega has revived the Big Window for their new Micro console family.

The last part of that sentence could be a tongue twister.

Gamers that purchase the Limited Edition Sega Game Gear Aleste collection will get one of these Big Window’s as part of the bundle.

What Is Aleste?

That seems like a good question to answer seeing as though I’ve mentioned it so many times already!

The Aleste series is a range of forward-scrolling shoot ’em up games for the Sega Master System and the Game Gear.

The franchise is a classic, with the original Aleste Game certainly securing its place as a late-but-deserved title in the Golden Age of gaming.

These four classic titles see you taking charge of the Aleste fighter as you destroy hordes of aliens who are trying to invade the Earth.

The first Aleste game sees you trying to stop a supercomputer that is trying to eliminate the human race…

… better start being a bit kinder to my MacBook, just in case!

Aleste 3 – A New Game For The Game Gear Micro

Many of the other best Mini Consoles that have dropped in recent years have also featured an unreleased game or unreleased levels, and the Limited Edition Game Gear Micro is no exception.

There will be a brand new, Aleste adventure to play on the Game Gear Micro.

GG Aleste 3 is a follow up to the 1993 game GG Aleste 2.

That’s a gap of 27 years, a long time to wait if you’re an Aleste fan!

The developers have stuck to the tried-and-tested style, and the game mechanics are in keeping with the original classics that also appear on the new console.

We’re still in the dark about the storyline at the moment, but rest assured we’ll be giving you more information when we get our hands on one!

The games can be bought separately or as part of the Limited Edition Sega Game Gear Aleste bundle.

There’s also a 32-page art book and a Staff Interview book being released alongside the collection, perfect for gamers who want an in-depth insight into the Aleste world.

When Can I Buy The Limited Edition Sega Game Gear?

The new micro console and associated bundles are set for release in Japan on December 24th!

It might be too late for Oseibo and Christmas, but we can all look forward to playing on the new console in the New Year!

At least if we all get locked down again, then we’ll have some epic consoles to play on this time!

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates on the Limited Edition Game Gear Micro coming soon!
