The rumours a couple of weeks back were true. Mattel are teaming up with Microsoft to launch a huge buildable Mattel Bricks set featuring over 3,000 pieces, a controller, lights, sounds and dioramas of popular Xbox games that hide inside the console itself.

This is Mattel's biggest "Brick" set yet, and boy is it a showstopper. It was officially revealed today on Xbox's social platforms, showing off its beauty, and the best bit, it's already available to pre-order if you're happy to cough up the also showstopping $324/£295 price tag. It's available on Amazon, Mattel Creations and Best Buy, and ships on October 16th 2026.

This news comes shortly after the remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved, and Mattel also teamed up with Microsoft to reveal the buildable UNSC Warthog a couple of weeks back, so it looks like the collaboration is now at a deeper, broader level, one certainly enticing retro gamers who have good taste in video games.

  • Iconic Duke Controller: Includes faithfully designed, buildable Duke controller with working buttons.
  • Controller-Activated Lights & Sounds: Press the controller buttons to activate four unique light & sound sequences.
  • Three Dioramas of Hit Games: Set includes dioramas of Psychonauts, Halo, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind that slot into the console
  • Features NanoWorld figures: Dioramas include 1-inch NanoWorld figures of iconic characters.
  • Display With Pride: This showstopping set is ideal for collectors, built to shine on your shelf.

This is a 1:1 size replica of the console, so this fella is big! But that's not all you're building; you're also building the thick Duke controller too, alongside small dioramas of Halo, Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Psychonauts, featuring characters and/or enemies from the games. Even the Flood from Halo is featured!

Each Diorama features lights and sounds from the game, allowing you to turn this set into an iconic centrepiece in your gaming room, office or living room if your partner truly loves you. The first time you open the console, it will also play the original Xbox's opening sequence through the built-in speaker.

Apparently, you can choose the light and sound sequence by plugging in the controller and pressing one of the four action buttons, the buttons that look exactly like the originals. Remember, those jelly bean-looking things? Nostalgic AF!

Maybe it's just because the original Xbox was my first proper home console, and that's why I am very excited about this set. It's an iconic piece of retro gaming history, and to mix that with the joy of building it, alongside Mattel's unique touches to buildable sets like their Hot Wheels collaborations, it's going to be a refreshing set for those that want something different to LEGO and touches on an important part of their childhood. It's expensive, admittedly, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not tempted to snag this on Amazon.
