I was waiting for leaks to drop regarding this set, because I have heard through the grapevine and through some of my trusted sources in the LEGO space that a PlayStation 1 set is coming, and now that other LEGO leakers have dropped the news, we're very confident it's actually happening.

A LEGO PS1 set received a bunch of attention last year on LEGO Ideas, a resource for LEGO enthusiasts to submit their own builds, and if it gets enough attention, LEGO's team will take a closer look at it, and potentially bring it to reality if licenses and business opportunities swing in their favour. Well, that's exactly what happened to AirBricks95's build.

It received over 10,000 votes in no time at all. It's not confirmed if this LEGO Creator is actually working on the upcoming set, but it could be a possibility. We have reached out to Aurélien from AirBricks95 to answer our questions, but he is likely not able to answer.

That said, LEGO leakers such as DarthBeardBrix and TheBrickNews have posted on X stating that a LEGO PS1 set has been confirmed to release between October and December, and will cost $159/€159, featuring 1911 pieces, which is along the lines of what we heard from our sources too. Titled "#72306 - SONY PlayStation 1 Console", and it will include one controller too.

As of now, no extra information has leaked. The piece count suggests it's going to be a medium-sized set, much bigger than the lacklustre SEGA Genesis that LEGO recently released, but smaller than the extravagant NES set that came with a TV. Hopefully there's some playability in it. Perhaps the disc drive opens and the LEGO team take inspiration from the GAME BOY buttons that felt incredible.

Only time will tell, but we'll keep you updated with new information when we hear it, the best way to keep updated is by subscribing to our free retro gaming newsletter.
