Another day another Pokémon ROM Hack, and this is one that I just had to try myself because the inner Pokémon Master in me just had to give this challenge a go. This new ROM hack is called Daily Red, and it's literally a daily challenge hack that makes you fight Red on Mt. Silver, an iconic momeny in Gold and Silver that has made many of us cry into our pillows at night... no? Just me, then.

This feels like wordle in the sense that you have to come back to it every day to attempt to beat him, and the game itself syncs with your PC/Mac/Smartphones clock so you're locked out until the next day, though i'll let you into a little secret, you can trick it by setting your clock +24 hours.

The Pokémon you get is completely randomised form generations 1 - 3 (all level 100) and everyone gets the same team that day so you can compare with friends. Oh, and so are the moves your own Pokémon gets, making it an incredibly difficult ROM hack, because there's undoubetedly going to be times you get a Magikarp, or a Weedle, but that's part of the fun, until that is when Snorlax body slams your Weedle off the planet.

To make things eben more embarassing, your record is saved too, letting you know day in day out how damn terrible you are at Pokémon. This is also a way to compare with friends as the weeks and months go on. It's a short and sweet ROM hack, that will get you hooked, and at times it will suprise you, because you think you get a great legendary Pokémon to then be gobsmacked at its move set.

The developer behind this known as AmoiBuilds, has openly said this has been entirely vibe-coded, and was something he wanted to make for himself but has opened it up to people that want to experience it themselves, and who don't mind entirely vibe-coded projects.

My only issue with this ROM hack is the cumbersome way of playing it. You technically have to decompile and create the game yourself on your PC, to then enable it to be played on your browser. I am some-what tech-savvy but this was an absolute ballache to get working, so much so that I had to ask AI to help me understand exactly what I was doing. I was coding into my terminal and more, just to get this to work, so its not for the average gamer, and the developer doesn't want to change that because he doesn't want to get any bad attention from Nintendo themselves.

That said, it can be downloaded via his GitHub page if you want to give it ago, just put aside 10 - 15 minutes to figure out how to get it to work because it's cumbersome. And as always, please do your own due diligence when downloading things from GitHub, it may contain malware. My Mac is still alive after downloading it however.
