I know it's hard to pick your favourite region from the classic Pokémon Game Boy games. Kanto started everything off, Johto perfected the gameplay formula in many ways, and Hoenn brought some of the best features that have gone on to become key elements of the series. What if I told you that there was a new game that you could play where you can swap regions at any point as you play, so you can experience not just the best of both worlds, but the best of three worlds?

Previous iterations of the hack created by Tenma have meant that you had to defeat the Elite Four before being able to change regions, but now, in this latest update, you can play adventures in different regions in parallel to each other. It's a little like reading three books at once, I guess, but if you're a gamer with a short attention span or someone who likes to swap and change things to keep them interesting, then this will be great news.
When you change region, the game saves in a safe outdoor area and swaps regions, so your progress is always recorded. You can manage your items and Pokémon between games too, swapping and changing as you see fit and sharing between regions. It's a whole new way of playing Pokémon games, and one that allows you to play with friends across other regions.
You can now pick from 84 Pokémon at the start of your adventure, with Marill, Axew, Pancham, Skrelp, Mareanie, Jangmo-o, Falinks, and Dreepy being added to the list. You can even have the computer bring up random choices for you to pick from out of those 84 too. Perhaps the best quality-of-life feature about this game, however, is having the option to ride a standard bicycle from the beginning of the game. That's the stuff that dreams are made of, right there!
To play Version 0.9.1 of Pokémon Quetzal, you'll need to patch a legally acquired version of Pokémon Emerald using the Pokémon Quetzal patcher. You can also download and play Moemon Quetzal while you're at it too!
