It's been over 4 decades, but the Vectrex is finally back. The miniature arcade cabinet-esque console with the built-in screen is coming back to us in miniature mode now that the Vectrex company has been revived in France, and we sat down with the man leading the charge, David Oghia, to talk about all things Vectrex on the Retro Dodo Podcast.
We chatted with David about the trials and tribulations of bringing back such an iconic brand, as well as getting to look firsthand at prototypes and David's ever-growing Vectrex collection. It was all very exciting, but when the talk turned to the upcoming Kickstarter campaign, things got even better.
The Vectrex Mini tries to stay as close to the original console as possible in terms of shape and form, and there will be three tiers for the standard edition of the miniature marvel. But the return of the Vectrex is a special moment, and David rightly wants to mark this special occasion with a special Limited Edition white version of the console.
And before you say it, the Vectrex came out before the Macintosh, so if anything, this Mac is giving Vectrex vibes and not the other way around.

'I wanted to do a special edition,' said David, 'I asked my company in Taiwan, I wanted to do a gold edition or perhaps a silver edition, and they said to me, "David, it's too complicated. You have to paint over the plastic." So I asked them, "Which color can I do?" They said, "White," and I thought, "Why not?" It's going to be classy!'
The Vectrex Mini will be limited to 200 units and will cost €219, shipping with a certificate of authenticity and an exclusive white edition badge. That's €70 more than the standard RRP of the Vectrex Mini, but I think we can all agree that it's a small price to pay for such a Limited Edition console!
Details for the Kickstarter will go live soon, but we can reveal that there will be 50 units in a special Founders Edition with a price of €99, and an Early Bird price of €129 limited to 200 units. I'll post more details as and when the Kickstarter goes live, but for now, you can listen to our full podcast with David below!
