When I first saw this, I thought it was too good to be true, even more so when I realised thousands of people are playing it at the same time, with hundreds of servers being available to join, so you can play against racers all across the world in your favourite PlayStation 2 game as if you were back in the early 2000s by just entering the website: https://nfsu2.xyz/

Need For Speed Underground 2 has been fully ported to your browser and is being called "Underground 2 Revived", offering online multiplayer capabilities thanks to a stand-in server that hosts hundreds of different lobbies all at the same time, even going as far as putting hundreds of racers into the career mode, so it gets incredibly chaotic early on in the game and at times it's just both hilarious and overwhelming, so I reccomend skipping career mode and jumping straight into online play.

I'll be honest, it's not the smoothest of gameplay, but enough to be enjoyable in most areas, likely because there are so many players in one server with an array of different pings and a whole lot of fast driving, but that said, it comes with a choice of many cars to pick from the get-go, EA's incredibly choice of soundtrack for this game and many maps to choose from when picking a server.

It's been developed by thomk, and they used the original NFSU2Recomp as a base and used Claude Code to get it working in a browser. The big issue is that you don't need to patch your own game, or even log in to your own EA Account; the entire game is available to play without any of that, pushing it into a grey area in terms of copyright infringement, as the legal way should be forcing users to use their own ROM files to patch it, but nope, thomk went all out anyway, stating that he "got a bit out of hand" with this one after launching it officially back in late October.

The game has a lot of improvements too, such as widescreen mode, free-roam, online races, 120fps settings, support for keyboards, controllers and touch controls, and it even offers the ability to add friends and quick chat with them while you're in the game, making it feel like an MMORPG, but with pimpin cars instead.

It's worth taking a look at if you're a big fan of the original Need For Speed games; it's out of this world, and I had a lot of fun playing it for an hour today... which should have been spent working, but hey, I did it for you!
