The MyMini From Game Console Could Be The Ugliest Handheld On The Planet

The MyMini From Game Console Could Be The Ugliest Handheld On The Planet

Honestly, I know that we said that we were done with rubbish handhelds, but as it's our job to talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of handheld and retro gaming, I figured I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't at least touch base with you all about the MyMini from Game Console.

I understand that designers need to do something different in order to keep our interest piqued and to stand out above the crowd, but when will this need for just slapping an analog stick on a handheld disappear? And to put one slap bang in the middle amongst the face buttons like it's a little bit too happy to see me is a choice that I just don't understand. This thing looks about as comfortable to play as trying to text while wrestling an octopus on a rollercoaster.

Check out our review of the Miyoo Mini Plus - the design is virtually the same just with the Start and Select buttons moved up and the space filled by an analog stick. The stick is probably there to promote PSP gameplay which would look terrible on this size screen. The only other thing it could be there for is N64 emulation, and even then I just can't imagine enjoying playing any game longer than 10 minutes on this thing without getting hand cramps.

Specs-wise, the 3.5" IPS screen puts it on a similar par with the TRIMUI Brick, a handheld that I love and doesn't have a weird wart on the front to distract me. The MyMini has 8GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM as well as a 4000 mAh battery. Like the TRIMUI Brick, it also has a Linux-based OS. Long story short, just buy a TRIMUI Brick if you want a similar-sized vertical handheld, or if you really want analog sticks, save your money for a console that they actually work well on like the ANBERNIC RG406H.

What do you think of the analog stick? Have I been overly harsh, or does this design look like it needs to be thrown into Mount Doom and eradicated forever? Let us know in the comments!
