It seems like every week I open up my laptop, another game that never launched for the Dreamcast is being brought to Sega's swansong console. I recently wrote about Mario Kart 64 coming to the system along with Sonic the Hedgehog as a playable character, and the Dreamcast community is slowly working to bring more and more titles with enhanced visuals and features to the table.

If you thought that seeing Mario Kart 64 on the Dreamcast felt like a sacreligious act that Nintendo would never have allowed back in the 90s, then seeing Super Mario 64 on the system will probably make you incredibly giddy. Dreamcast modder Esppiral is on a mission to make an enhanced version of Super Mario 64 with enhanced geometry and textures, and according to Falco Girgis, the fresnel lighting from Mario Galaxy too!

The Dreamcast footage on the right of the clip above shows characters and scenery with much bolder colours and substance. King Boo looks like he's dropped from a Wii game into the N64 classic, as does Mario himself, with an updated look to his hat, hair, face, and overalls - essentially his entire look! It looks even better than the Switch version of SM64 in Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

The game is stil very much in the early stages and being worked on all the time, though with Esppiral's track record of working on the GTA 3 Dreamcast ort and remastering Dead or Alive 2, I'm sure this port is going to be incredible when its finished.

In recent months, we've also seen Doom 64 ported to the Dreamcast, as well as work bringing Sonic Mania to the console. Honestly, it blows my mind that the Dreamcast is finally getting its time in the spotlight over two decades after it was discontinued, but I'm all here for it. I'm excited to see which game is going to get ported over next - is anyone going to tackle Ocarina of Time?
