Sonic Mania Plus Is Now Running On The Dreamcast

Honestly, the Dreamcast is the console of the moment, which is kind of wild considering it was discontinued almost a quarter of a century ago. Still, thanks to community members like Falco Girgis documenting every achievement and all of the latest projects in the space, the Dreamcast is finally getting the attention it deserved back in the day.

After a recent bringing GTA III back to the Dreamcast and a budding developer porting Mario Kart 64 to Sega's iconic console (which I love even though it feels sacrilegious), a developer called @SonicFreak94 has been working to bring Sonic Mania Plus to the console.

If you're wondering why that's such a big deal, then Sonic Mania Plus dropped in 2018, 20 years after the Dreamcast was released in Japan. The work that has gone into porting this title over and fitting it onto 16MB of RAM blows my mind, especially when you consider the fact that it's running at 60 FPS!

According to Falco, there isn't any sound yet, and SonicFreak94 still has to get the 3D stages hooked up, but the progress so far is amazing! You can see from the X post above how playable it is already, and I'm excited to see how fast this all comes together!

What other games would you like to see ported to the Dreamcast by the community? If someone gets Star Fox Adventures running on it, then I would be very happy!
