Big the cat is out of the bag – we’re getting 5 new and amazing Sonic LEGO sets coming to Retro Dodo Towers, and you know that we’re going to hardly leave the building for the next couple of weeks while we build them!
We’re still waiting for a Retro Dodo Towers set to be built, but I suppose this will do until we’ve got the bigwigs at LEGO to get back to us.
And after our latest podcast battle over whether Mario or Sonic is better, at least two of the team are going to be pushing all of the LEGO Super Mario sets straight to the back of the cupboard and making way for some Sonic magic.
We did half think that the next gaming franchise to get the LEGO treatment would be The Legend Of Zelda, but we shouldn’t really be surprised that the fastest Hedgehog of all time beat Link to the post!
So, let’s cut the chit-chat and dive straight into checking out these new exciting Sonic LEGO sets!
Table of Contents
1. LEGO® Sonic the HedgehogTM Sonic’s Speed Sphere Challenge (76990)
The first of the new Sonic LEGO sets is the easiest to build, coming in at just 292 pieces. Don’t let the easy difficulty of this Sonic’s Speed Sphere Challenge fool you though; Sonic is about to go seriously fast in this one!
While there isn’t much building going on, there’s lots of sweet accessories for fans to get excited about, including the 4cm high sphere launcher which looks incredibly cool!
Add some collectible rings, a Moto Bug Badnik , and a some recreational Sonic-style activities like lounging on the beach into the equation, and you’ve got yourself a fun little set on your hands.
The Speed Sphere Challenge set will cost 29,99 EUR / 34,99 USD / 24,99 GBP.
2. LEGO® Sonic the HedgehogTM Tails’s Workshop and Tornado Plane (76991)
Miles Prower strikes again! I’ve always been a huge fan of the Tornado plane, and getting the chance to build it in LEGO form with the Tails’s Workshop and Tornado Plane is going to be so cool!
Check out Sonic up there; the guy knows no fear.
Weighing in at 376 pieces, it’s a step up from the Speed Sphere and features Tails in his element, surrounded by his gizmos and gadgets in his workshop.
Sonic seems to be chilling out in the still above, though I’m not sure why when a Buzz Bomber is lurking around outside!
The workshop itself measures 9cm high, 12cm wide, and 3.5cm deep and comes with rings to collect too.
With more pieces comes a bigger price; this set will set you back 42,99 EUR / 39,99 USD / 37,99 GBP
3. LEGO® Sonic the HedgehogTM Amy’s Animal Rescue Island (76992)
Amy is heading up the third entry in the new Sonic LEGO sets announcement, looking after all of the animals rescued through the various levels on her very own Amy’s Animal Rescue Island set!
I’ve never really liked crabmeat when I eat sushi, and looking at Crabmeat on the box above, there’s no wonder why. Luckily Amy comes with her trusty hammer for batting him away!
There are 6 characters to play with in this set and 388 pieces to put together, keeping those nimble fingers occupied while listening to Sonic tunes from our video game soundtracks on vinyl article!
Tails has left the Tornado behind and joined in the action too, giving you great value for money.
But what is that value?
Well, the set will come in at 52,99 EUR / 49,99 USD / 46,99 GBP.
4. LEGO® Sonic the HedgehogTM Sonic’s Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge (76994)
It’s the set you’ve all been waiting for and with the baddie you’ve all been hoping would be here too. Yes, the Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge is the last of the new Sonic LEGO sets, and it’s a mammoth 802 pieces!
This set is the biggest so far with 9 characters to play with.
But come on, we all know you’ve only got eyes for Eggman. His fighting machine looks so good!
The loop track is 37cm long and features lots of accessories and characters from the previous sets. I guess you could say it’s the best of the bunch, with a Newtron, Badniks, and ol’ Moustache-face himself to beat.
This set costs 104,99 EUR / 99,99 USD / 94,99 GBP, but you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck here which is what we like to see.
5. LEGO® Sonic the Hedgehog™ Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot (76993)
Finally, we have the battle to end all battles; Sonic vs Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot!
If you liked Eggman’s fighting machine in the last set, then this 615 piece set with 6 characters and accessories will be right up your street.
Make the most of the speed sphere launcher, 6 characters, and tonnes of extra items and weapons to join in the battle.
If you can manage to hit the Death Egg right in the centre of the chest, then you’ll free captured animals from capsules and let them roam free.
Charge through dangerous obstacles and make your way straight to Eggman. Although to be honest I think I’m going to spend more time just hitting Sonic with Eggman’s big robotic feet!
This set has a pricetag of GBP64,99 EUR / 59,99 USD / 57,99 GBP, and it’s definitely one for the evil villain fans out there!
Speaking on the new LEGO sets, Sega’s Ivo Gerscovich says that they strive to create memorable experiences with their licensing partners that fans will cherish for years to come.
“The LEGO Group is the leader in play, and the perfect partner to bring exciting stories, iconic characters & environments from the Sonic universe to life in fans’ living rooms globally. Through our creative collaboration with the LEGO Group, Sonic fans of all generations can use their imaginations to play out their favourite Sonic moments, and we can’t wait to see their awesome creations.”
