This month, Retroid wants your money. They've officially opened up pre-orders for the Retroid Pocket Duo, their first dual-screen retro handheld, and now they've slashed the prices of their older (and still great) handhelds with the statement "grab one now before they’re gone forever", indicating that they are discontinuing these devices for good.
The sad part is that some of the devices featured in these deals are great devices, ones that I don't want to see be discontinued, but it's for good reason. Retroid want to guide you into their newer devices, and it likely means they're working on newer devices to make the discontinuation of some of these devices make sense.
What are the deals?
- Retroid Pocket Classic is now just $99, reduced from $149. This is probably the best deal of the bunch in my opinion because it's such a good pocket-friendly vertical. You can read our full review here.
- Retroid Pocket 5 (12gb) is now $179, reduced from $209. A great 16:9 device for those that don't want to splash out on the Pocket 6 and want good emulation up to GameCube and a sprinkling of smaller PS2 games.
- Retroid Pocket Flip 2 has discounts on two of its variants, the first being the D1100 8GB version, which is now $149, reduced from $179. A clamshell handheld with a single screen capable of up to GameCube emulation. Then comes their slightly more powerful SD865 12GB version that is now $189, reduced from $219. This can emulate most PlayStation 2 games at native resolution.
So, if you have been on the fence with any of the devices listed above, this is likely the last time you will be able to buy them, and according to Retroid, they will be discontinued once the remaining stock sells out. If I had to grab one, it would be the Pocket Classic; that thing is awesome!
