If you've ever emulated on an iPhone or an iPad, it's very likely that you have come across Delta; it's one of the most popular emulator applications on iOS and is renowned for great user experience, reliable emulation performance and detailed customisations, even going as far as allowing you to change and add your own skins. It's one I have been using for years, and we even had Riley, the Lead Developer, on our Podcast many moons ago to talk about it.
You may have also seen that Apple has revealed their all new foldable smartphone called the iPhone Duo, and as soon as I saw it I immediately wondered how great Nintendo DS emulation would be on this thing, so I had to email my boy Riley for some confirmation, or at least a tease that he is indeed working on something for this, and to my delight, he confirmed.
"Yes, the plan is to have dedicated support for the Duo in Delta (though we're not officially announcing an exact launch date quite yet) — we actually spent a lot of time making sure that Delta worked with resizing and multi-window support back when Stage Manager first debuted for iPadOS, and fortunately that work has proven very applicable here", states Riley, the Lead Developer.
That's all Riley could share with me at this moment in time, though Delta did share the image above on their Threads page, showing that indeed, a big update is coming to please many Nintendo DS fans looking for a unique, modern and easy way to play their favourite games on the go, on a folding smartphone. I'm already excited to see all of the crazy skins that gamers create for this screen real estate.
With the increase in popularity of Nintendo DS emulation this year in the form of the ANBERNIG RG DS Plus, the Retroid Pocket Duo and the Yoniq Duo, it's good to see yet another way to explore this handheld's library of incredible games and no doubt the team at Delta is going to make this a fun and silky smooth way to do just that in update 2.0.
Riley couldn't mention a release date, but their promotional image suggests it could be in line with the Duo's launch in October, and a lot of the work is already done from previous iPad developments, making me believe this could be true. Only time will tell, but it's clear myself and many are excited to hear that this is in development.
