Sega might have lost the console race back when the Dreamcast plunged into the realms of obscurity, but there has never been a better time to be a Sonic fan. With three movies under his belt (I know he doesn't wear one, it's a figure of speech), and success with Sonic x Shadow Generations has made him the mammal of the moment.
Sonic aside, Sega is still a powerhouse in the gaming world, a fact that's been further cemented by them opening their first permanent store in China. As reported by Kyodo, they announced the opening of the store, which will sell merchandise of famous Sega characters to the people of Shanghai.
Sega's president Shuji Utsumi said 'I want to deliver Sega's charm to many people in Shanghai, where game culture is rooted.' The store officially opened today, May 1st, 2025, so if you happen to live in Shanghai or are planning a visit to the city, then pop by and let us know your thoughts!
In other less exciting news to come out of China, 8BitDo have recently announced that they will no longer be shipping their products to America after the recent impact that President Trump's tariffs have had on trade with China. Their decision follows ANBERNIC's decision to also halt shipments of new products to America, with many gamers snapping up what little stock is left in both companies' US warehouses.
