I know what you're thinking, and you read the title right. Pokémon Tower is one of the creepiest places in Kanto, and it remains one of the most intriguing places in the story of Pokémon Red and Blue. And now even more so, as someone has discovered a way to get a shiny Pokémon there.

Shiny Pokémon aren't part of the first generation games; they came into effect in the second generation games Gold and Silver. So what's happening here?

Well, a YouTuber by the name of Porygondolier has found a bug within their ROM hack of the Gen 1 games that only happened within Pokémon Tower. They discovered that wild Pokémon encounters are different inside the tower than they are anywhere else in the game.

And the secret to finding a shiny Gastly? It's the Silph Scope. According to Porygondolier, the Silph Scope acts like a Shiny Charm in that it causes a Pokémon's hidden determinant value to be rerolled. That essentially increases the odds of a Pokémon being shing from 0 to approximately 1/8192. It's a long shot, I know, but still, it's better than 0!

As Porygondolier says, this is significant because it's a Shiny Gastly not obtained through a glitch or a trade, but a wild encounter in the game, which was thought to be impossible. It's amazing that we're still pushing the boundaries of what's possible with the original Gen 1 games in 2026 - who knows what else there is still to find!
