Wario has always been one of my favourite Nintendo characters, not least because he looks a lot like my uncle, although he doesn't wear purple dungarees (that I know of...). He's a strange sort of anti-hero - he's not a good guy, just a guy who's a law unto himself and kind of does what he wants.

While it's only been three years since the last WarioWare game released, it's been almost two decades since the last Wario Land game came out. Sure, Wario has appeared in Mario Party and Mario Kart World, but I want a brand new adventure in the same vein as Wario World on the GameCube, one of my favourite games and arguably the best game of 2003 (and I'll die on that hill).

So, where are we getting this rumour from? Well, there's a leaker called noarmsandnolegs who predicted the recent Rayman announcement (who also has no arms and no legs) and called the reveal of a new Spyro game during the Xbox showcase. Both of those leaks ended up being correct, so while the news of a new Wario game is complete conjecture at this moment, I'm inclined to think that noarmsandlegs could be 3-for-3 with this one, as it's certainly about time we had a new Wario game.

While noarmsandnolegs can't confirm whether it's going to be a Wario Land entry or not, they have rightly said that the inclusion of a Wario Land track on Mario Kart World could well be an indicator of what's coming next. With the arrival of Baby Waluigi and Baby Wario's return, we could also see a reimagining of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island!

Personally, I would love to see a sequel to Wario World arriving, or at least a 3D game that could take on the likes of Super Mario Odyssey. It's time Wario had his time in the sun again, as long as the sun leads him towards some treasure and eternal glory, that is.

We're unsure whether we'll see a new Wario title in the next Nintendo Direct, which is also rumoured to be happening within the next fortnight, and it's important to remember that this is all just rumours at the moment. Still, the chatter is growing louder, and hopefully we'll see some concrete evidence soon!
