Around a month ago, I reported that Pokémon fangame dev Manuel Rodríguez Matesanz was working to bring Pokémon Snap to both the PS1 and the 3DS, using Unity Engine to fully recreate the game from scratch for both systems. Well, I can now confirm that the Beta for Pokémon Snap 3DS is available to play now, complete with new mechanics, quality-of-life features, and gameplay in a stereoscopic 3D effect.

If you've never played Pokémon Snap, then you're in for a treat. It's a chance to see Pokémon in their natural habitat on Pokémon Island, taking pictures of them in beautiful locations and seeing them interacting with their fellow islanders. You travel around on the kind of buggy that you might find in Jurassic Park, so you'll need to be quick on the draw with your camera if you want to snap 'em all.
I just noticed in the released beta, I forgot to enable the flag for the tutorial. 🤣#unity #madewithunity #nintendo3ds #pokemonsnap3ds #nintendo64 #fangame pic.twitter.com/aXYFp8mQa1

Manuel's 3DS version of the game implements touch-screen controls, gyroscope controls, and Amiibo support. There are new routes to traverse and Pokémon that you won't find on the original N64 version of the game. It's also available in seven languages and is designed to be used with 3DS hardware, although it will also work on everything from Windows to a hacked Nintendo Switch. You can use it with Citra and Azahar too!
Visually, it looks great, like a bona fide Nintendo 3DS game. That's great for players like you and me, but I hope that Manuel doesn't get a knock on his door from Nintendo's lawyers with a big wad of cease and desist letters. If they can get Cody Rhodes, then no one is safe!
