I know we all love Sonic's many Sega games, but when someone asks you to think of an iconic Sonic level, your mind instantly goes to Green Hill Zone. Fortnite knows it, Retro Dodo knows it, and you know it - it's like a nostalgic warm blanket rolling over you every time you play it, and it's one of the most influential stages of any game of all time.
This hack by cpc gives fans of Green Hill like me the ultimate Groundhog Day experience, allowing us to play it on repeat forever. The level is endless, with 32 different versions of the level built into the hack. Essentially, one version is picked at random, and when you reach the signpost at the end of the level, you'll be greeted with another randomised version of the level from the other 31 layouts, with the process repeating in perpetuity.
If you die mid-runthrough of the level you're on, you'll head back to the beginning of that level - new layouts only form when you reach the level's end. Sonic can jump in mid-air as many times as you like, and you'll start with 99 lives, which shows how difficult this randomly-generated hack can be. According to cpc, you'll sometimes come across impossible jumps which are 'part of the fun'. I can imagine getting so infuriated that I smash my laptop against the nearest tree, but it's time I bought a new one anyway.
You'll need a legally acquired ROM of Sonic The Hedgehog (USA, Europe).md - NOINTRO to patch the hack onto, and then you're good to go. Head to Romhacking.net to download the hack, and get patching!
