If you woke up today feeling a change in the wind or with the thought that the stars were a little brighter last night, then it’s probably because of a new Kirby game heading your way.
After the unprecedented success of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby has once again proved that he’s more than just a Super Smash Bros stalwart and has a whole catalogue of epic games just waiting for you to play.
We love Kirby, and we’re always on the lookout for news about his adventures while trawling through the internet. We’re talking star gliding, power sword wielding, ability nabbing shenanigans with possibly the most deadly but adorable video game character of all time!

The Main New Kirby Game Rumours

The biggest rumour around a new Kirby game is that Kirby: Fire & Ice is dropping in 2024. It’s a brand new Kirby game with a story laid out as well as a full character list.
Let’s unpack that a little.
Kirby: Fire and Ice goes as far as to say when it’s coming out in different territories too, with 2024 release dates set throughout March and April.
While we think that this is an unrealistic goal for the game to come out (we’ve only got to look back at the Metroid Prime 4 release date to back this up).
A little more digging shows that the title, logo, and concept, are in fact from a fan fiction website, however. But, we’re loving the concept for this and think that the idea of collecting Fire and Ice shards and using new powers in brand new locations sounds incredible, and that this Kirby fan definitely has a place at Nintendo’s table!
Still, there is sometimes truth to fan-fiction ideas like this, so who know! Personally, we think that we’re going to see a follow up to The Forgotten Land or maybe a crossover with another Nintendo character.
Now Kirby and Luigi teaming up in for Luigi’s Mansion 4 would be unreal!
Rumours are circulating about Kirby’s new adventure following the traditional platformer style of title, which isn’t a massive surprise. That’s what Kirby is known for, after all, and I don’t think Nintendo want to mess with the formula too much.
In other words, we’re not expecting an open-world Kirby game.
What Platforms Will The New Kirby Game Be Released On?

Kirby is a Nintendo stalwart, so the new Kirby game is only going to be available on Nintendo Switch.
Though, there’s always the chance that we could see the Pink Peril dropping onto the Super Nintendo Switch or the Nintendo Switch 2!
We’ve seen a couple of rumours flowing around the internet about a new Kirby game coming out for the Nintendo Zoom, a concept console that, had it become a reality, should have dropped back in 2022.
Obviously, the Nintendo Zoom never appeared in real life, but there’s a chance that Kirby could lead up the new next-gen Switch console with his colourful antics.
New Kirby Game Gameplay

Off the back of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, we’re predicting that we’re going to see Kirby dashing around in a brand new 3D world utilising his trademark copycat mechanic as his main ability once again.
As we haven’t seen a trailer for the new Kirby game yet, we can’t completely say for certain what we’re about to see in the new game, but we can expect large open spaces to run around in just like the last title, with lots of rooms and hidden areas to uncover as the game progresses.
This isn’t going to be a side-scrolling title like Kirby Return To Dreamland Deluxe; we know that the main 3D canon is only going to go from strength to strength since The Forgotten Land, and we’re not about to see a Yooka-Layle backtrack to side-scrolling levels.
We think that the amount of objects that Kirby will be able to suck up is going to increase tenfold too – becoming a car in the last game was incredible, but where does the madness stop?
New Kirby Game Release Date

The new Kirby game is most likely to drop on Nintendo Switch late 2026.
If we take into account that The Forgotten Land came out in 2022, then a four year gap for the new title isn’t too much to ask, especially as we’ve had Return to Dream Land Deluxe in 2023!
How Many Kirby Games Are There?
There are 44 Kirby games in total, with 13 in the main canon as of 2023.
Kirby isn’t just a one-hit wonder, you know! He’s appeared on every Nintendo Console since the early NES days and has even been a firm fighter in all the Super Smash Bros. series.
What Is Kirby?
Kirby’s life started out as a pink circular placeholder for what the creators character would eventually look like. At just 8-inches tall, this elastic powerhouse has no specific species; he’s simply Kirby from Planet Popstar!
I think if I had something on the loose that could eat anything and steal their powers, I’d want to know a little more about them. Still, Kirby is a bit of an enigma, and we don’t want to antagonise him too much in case he eats us!
Will A New Kirby Game Appear On Xbox?
Kirby is a Nintendo legend, and as such, he will only be appearing on the Nintendo Switch family of consoles from here on out.
Nintendo’s little round hero isn’t going to be heading to Xbox anytime soon, not unless Nintendo and Xbox form a firm friendship after RARE titles heading back to the Switch on the Nintendo Switch online platform.
Which, I think we all know, is doubtful.
Is Kirby Open World?
Kirby games are not open world. They allow you to run around and explore, but they still follow a system of ‘complete one world, move onto the next’.
I don’t think we’re going to see Kirby heading out on a BotW adventure any time soon – the Kirby formula remains ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’!
Which Is The Best Selling Kirby Game?
Kirby and the Forgotten Kingdom is the best selling Kirby game of all time, with 6.46 million sales at the time of writing.
The latest Kirby game is the best selling Kirby game of all time. It also ranks pretty high on our list of the best Kirby games too, which is a much better accolade to have.
When Will The New Kirby Game Be Released?
The new Kirby game is most likely to see a Winter 2026 release.
Seb Santabarbara has bought every Nintendo console that has ever been released in his 33 years on Planet Earth. His favourite game franchise is Zelda, and he’s patiently waiting for Banjo-Kazooie to come back to the fold. When he’s not playing games, he’s travelling the world in his self-converted camper van.
