The Analogue Pocket now supports eight new arcade game cores including arcade classics Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr. and Asteroids Deluxe.
First reported by our friends over at Time Extension, the new Analogue Pocket cores have been developed and released by unknown developer obsidian-dot-dev.
Obsidian-dot-dev states that they’re “currently working on FPGA projects” while also “very much learning FPGAs”. The new developer may be one to watch if you want more arcade cores on your Analogue Pocket then.
These five new cores from obsidian-dot-dev were originally spotted by Pixel Cherry Ninja in a YouTube video released yesterday.
The five new cores allow players to access eight new games on their Analogue Pockets. The full list of titles includes:
- Asteroids Deluxe
- Dig Dug II
- Donkey Kong 3
- Donkey Kong Jr.
- Mappy
- Mario Bros.
- Motos
- Tower Of Druaga
If you’re keen to check out these new titles on your own handheld then check out our guide on how to install cores onto your Analogue Pocket.
Pocket Performance
The Analogue Pocket originally released in December 2021 and gained lots of praise for its superior build quality and stunning screen.
Supply issues and shipping delays plagued the Analogue Pocket from launch with reports of some enthusiasts waiting over twelve months for their handhelds to arrive. Despite the distribution troubles, the premium handheld was worth the wait for many retro gamers.
Analogue treated fans to a series of limited editions of their hugely popular Pocket last year. New variants included transparent and classic colours for the DMG inspired device.
Analogue even released a glow in the dark model, presumably to allow players to find the diminutive device in the dead of night.
We’re big fans of the Analogue Pocket here at Retro Dodo with our Founder, Brandon, awarding the handheld a mighty nine out of ten in our official review.
