We're in an era where new Chromatic games are releasing for the ultimate 'Game Boy to end all Game Boys', and I'm all for it. The ModRetro Chromatic is an awesome machine, and the fact that we're getting brand new games from independent publishers that stand tall with the original titles that dropped on the Game Boy back in the day is fantastic. I mean, if you've not played Dragonyhm or Chantey, then you really need to put some time aside and dive into them!
Two new Chromatic games are available to purchase to play on your Chromatic or Game Boy/Game Boy Color right now: Fall From Space and Pineapple Kid DX. Now, the eagle-eyed amongst you might well have remembered me writing about Fall From Space recently. I was contacted by the developer, Joel Jarman, to test the game, but I wasn't allowed to give any information about a release date or that it would be distributed in cartridge form by ModRetro. We spoke about his journey making this game, his history in game development, and working with the legendary artist Mitsuhiro Arita, and you should definitely check out that article for more information!

Just look at that box artwork - it's worth the $44.99 price tag alone before you take into account the fact that you get a full-colour manual, glittery cartridge, and Chromatic charm to hang from your console. This game is part Metroidvania title, part open-world RPG. It lasts around 10 hours but has multiple endings, making it highly replayable, especially when you consider the karma system changes the game around you as you play.
Then we've got Pineapple Kid DX, a colour remake of the 2021 version of the game distributed by Bitmap Soft and made by MHZ Games. I don't know about you, but it's time we had more fruit and vegetable-based protagonists. Amazing Tater and Spud's Adventure are some of the most sought-after games on the Game Boy, so it's nice to see Chromatic games following suit with healthy heroes.

Pineapple Kid DX is very much a puzzler through and through, with players running and dodging past dangerous items and finding keys to unlock increasingly difficult puzzles in the mysterious 100-Year Tower. Players have to cover all of the white space on a level while moving Pineapple Kid around, turning the floor into a lined surface. Once every square has been traversed, keys will appear that you need to collect to get to the next stage. It's a short game, giving you around 2+ hours of gameplay, similar to Black Tower Enigma (which I would also like to see sold by ModRetro sometime soon!). It has a price tag of $39.99, which reflects the quicker play time, but I can see people playing this again and again as it looks like a relaxing game to play while having a cup of coffee.
Both games are available to purchase now - let us know which one you like the look of the best!
