LEGO is unstoppable at the moment, releasing many new sets for retro gamers, including the GAME BOY, and the Genesis/Mega Drive controller, which just so happened to be a great, accurate set for SEGA fans, and it was one I thoroughly enjoyed building, so much so that I wish LEGO teamed up with SEGA to build a larger Genesis/Mega Drive set...
And that's exactly what they are doing, and although I am happy to see it come to fruition and feature both US and European versions of the console, there's certainly some disappointment that comes with it, and I'm not the only one frustrated, it seems!

This set is made from 479 pieces, and will cost $39.99/£34.99/€39.99 when released on June 1st. Which you may think is a great price, and I'll agree it is, but many would have rathered this be a larger, more in -depth set featuring a more detailed version of the console, and hopefully with some extra love, just like the older LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System set that came with thousands of pieces and a full blown CRT that allowed you to control Mario within the game.

Instead, we have an incredibly small set that shows corners cut and builds into a console that has certainly cut corners in terms of accuracy and precision. It feels like a half-assed set, and many on social media agree, going as far as saying it looks terrible.

I don't mind a cheap LEGO set, the LEGO GAME BOY was remarkable for its price, it looked like the real deal and had a very close size replication, which is what we all want, the same goes for the LEGO Insiders Genesis controller, which was incredibly detailed, but this... isn't what SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive fans want, even if it is affordable.
This was my very first console, so maybe I'm just a little upset personally that I now know we won't get a large, accurate LEGO set based on this console for a long time, if ever, now that a low-quality, cheap one is being released.

The console itself looks okay, and it can be transformed into the European Mega Drive with instructions which is pretty cool, but the controller, the size, the cartridge and the hidden Sonic easter egg doesn't feel like LEGO took much time on building this, or putting any sort of passion into it. It feels like a quick cash grab.
They'll happily release a $500+ Pokémon set, or a $200 LEGO NES, so it seems like they could have made this a little larger, and a little bit more expensive to get it as close to the original as possible to please SEGA fans, especially when you consider they've done half of it before by building the controller! What's your thoughts?
