When you celebrate 30 years of a popular easy-make pasta brand, the last thing you want is a cake with candles in it. As a man of Italian heritage, I would much prefer to have a couple of candles sticking out the top of a bowl of bolognese just like Mama makes, and I’d like to celebrate it with the only other Italian that I know likes pasta as much as me – Mario (don’t worry, there aren’t any mushrooms in sight).
Yes, Kraft has come up with a great marketing ploy to get gamers celebrating with them as they move into their 30th year of offering Mac & Cheese to the masses. Their new shapes are all Mario and Mushroom-Kingdom themed and keep hunger locked away like Bowser inside his cage at the end of the Super Mario Movie, with Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and Super Stars a-plenty, though I think they’ve missed a trick by not including mushroom flavours (it’s probably something to do with not wanting to eat all the little Toads…).
When asked why Kraft wanted to work with Mario, Senior Marketing Director at Kraft Mac & Cheese Ashleigh Gibson said that, as I know all too well, ‘la cena con la famiglia è molto importante’. In other words, food with the family is very important. “In today’s fast-paced world,” says Asheligh, “it has become increasingly difficult for families to find time to enjoy meals together. We’ve always helped families reground, reset, and reconnect during mealtime. It’s important to us that we continue providing that reassuring comfort, which is why we’re excited to partner with Nintendo on the newest addition to our shapes portfolio. We look forward to bringing families back together at the table, bonding over two things we know they love — Kraft Mac & Cheese and Super Mario.”
The new tasty treats come in boxes for the family or single cups when you’re feeling peckish while gaming. It’s not the first time that our favourite powered-up plumber has featured in the food world either; Mario has featured in pasta form over at Kraft HQ multiple times over the years too. Some of you might remember the Nintendo Cereal System back in the day, and you might also have seen his recent cool-crossover into the world of ice cream. Still, pasta’s where it’s at, and if you get peckish while saving Peach, Kraft has got you covered.
