Keanu Reeves To Voice Shadow In Sonic The Hedgehog 3

We’ve all been wondering who would give their voice to the Ultimate Life Form in the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Who could have enough gravitas, a mysterious demeanour, and an unnerving yet calm and powerful voice to command the hearts and minds of millions?

Keanu Reeves, that’s who. And what’s great about this reveal is that our very own Content Editor and Keanu-lookalike Theo Litston called Keanu taking up the role on February 13th of this year. Does he have extra knowledge of what Keanu is up to because they share a likeness, or was it a great guess?

Either way, we’re incredibly excited to have John Wick, Neo, Johnny Silverhand, and Johnny Utah taking up the role as the second-coolest Hedgehog to ever feature in a video game (I’m contractually obliged to say that because Brandon is such a huge Sonic fan).

According to the Holywood Reporter, the new Sonic the Hedgehog Movie is pinned to drop on December 9th by Paramount, two years after the second movie brought Idris Elba into the mix. Keanu’s suave style and voice are going to lend themselves perfectly to Shadow; no filming decision has made more sense… other than Jim Carey playing Robotnik, of course.

We recently covered the fact that Jim Carey would be putting off his retirement for a little longer after agreeing to reprise his role of Robotnik for the third movie in the series. It’s thought that Sonic and Robotnik might have to team up to stop Shadow in this new entry if news from the behind-closed-doors screening is correct, so there will be plenty of opportunity for Carey and Reeves to square up against each other.

As well as Elba, Reeves, and Carey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter will be appearing in the new film and taking up their previous roles, with Director Jeff Fowler hoping that the third film in the series will surpass the $404 million that the second movie made. I think with Keanu on board, that won’t be a difficult task!

While Shadow’s solo computer game garnered mixed reactions from critics, the world collectively blew their minds when he appeared at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Shadow was always my favourite character in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and his reveal as the Ultimate Life Form in the game was unreal. But will he amaze moviegoers when Keanu Reeves voices Shadow the Hedgehog this December, or will his performance leave viewers screaming at the sky and shooting an imaginary gun?
