Jim Carrey Returns As Dr. Robotnik In Sonic 3 This December

Jim Carrey as Robotnik

Jim Carrey has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Sonic’s primary antagonist, and return as Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic 3 movie.

The news comes exclusively via Variety and ensures that fans of the Blue Blur’s big screen exploits will see the nefarious mad scientist once more.

The star of Ace Ventura, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Man On The Moon will be a welcomed back to the franchise by fans eager to see Carrey return as Dr. Robotnik.

Carrey’s return as Dr. Robotnik isn’t the only good news for Sonic movie fans today. The offical Sonic The Hedgehog Twitter account has just released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming flick.

The twenty second clip reveals a new animation based on the classic Sonic Adventure 2 logo and closes with a deep chuckle that sounds suspiciously like Carrey’s Robotnik.

Carrey had previously said that he was ‘fairly serious’ about retiring from acting. The veteran actor and comedian mused ‘I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough’.

The statements were made in 2022 after Carrey completed his work playing Dr. Robotnik in Sonic 2. Sonic 2’s ending, and the fate of Carrey’s iconic, mustachioed character was left ambiguous by Paramount, perhaps giving the movie makers some wiggle room around the uncertainty if Carrey would return.

We won’t have long to wait to see Jim Carrey return as Dr. Robotnik back on the big screen with Sonic 3 due to arrive in theatres on the 20th December this year.

The film will see the introduction of Shadow The Hedgehog to the Sonic Cinematic Universe (yes, that’s a thing now), and will see the Ultimate Life Form going head to head with Sonic.

If December is too long to wait for your next Sonic fix then Paramount+ has you covered with a new spin-off series starring Idris Elba’s Knuckles arriving this Summer.

Gamers will take control of Shadow in the recently announced Sonic X Shadow Generations which also arrives this year.
