If you’re hoping to get ahead in Mazza’s new football title, then you’ll need to know how to pick the best team in Mario Strikers Battle League!
The new game dropped on the June 10th 2022, which is the day this article was written. I’ve been playing for around eight hours straight now, trying out all different manner of team rosters.
And you know what… I think I’ve found the ultimate team!
The team below and their respective positions have helped me to win trophy after trophy time and time again.
I don’t want to say that they’re an unstoppable force… actually I do, because they are!
So, if you want to know how to pick the best team in Mario Strikers Battle League, look no further. I’ve listed why I’ve picked each of my chosen players and what general position I put them in on the pitch.
This is more than just a game, it’s become a way of life (all in the space of 8 hours).

Captain – Waluigi
Waluigi makes a great Captain in Mario Strikers Battle League because he’s quick, strong, and has great technique.
And he looks a lot like my Italian Zio Aldo, which makes him the perfect choice to lead the team.
If you’ve read my article on how to win in Mario Strikers Battle League, then you’ll already know about my kick-off tackle trick. Waluigi is powerful enough to move the ball away far enough to get some decent space and has enough technique to curl it past the goalie.
I’ve scored goals seconds after the other team have kicked off using this method!
Waluigi is also one of the fastest players too, meaning that while he’s great in that initial kick off, he’s also perfect for standing in for every other position too.
Defender – Bowser
Bowser is the ultimate defender in Mario Strikers Battle League.
I mean, just look at the size of him, for crying out loud. Just standing in front of the goal is enough to reduce the other team’s chances of scoring significantly.
You know what though; Bowser is pretty nimble on his feet. He owns his half of the pitch and can shift pretty fast when you pull off a charged tackle to ward off an advancing player.
Just like Bonnuci, my favourite Italian defender, he’s not opposed to scoring either. With great shooting stats, a charged shot from the centre line usually finds its mark without any issues.
Midfielder – Yoshi
Yoshi’s superb passing and shooting skills make him the ultimate midfielder in Mario Strikers Battle League.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re passing back or forward, targeting lob shots or shooting past a fast-approaching Donkey Kong, Yoshi has some serious skills that have helped me out of a tight spot many times.
He also compliments every other player, quick to reach open spaces and with enough strength to at least get the ball from most players in a tackle.
Timed with a dodge and a dash, and he’s one slippery customer.
It’s harder to pull off a hyper strike with Yoshi, but his general shooting is second to none. Twinned with our striker, you really can’t go wrong.
Striker – Luigi
Luigi is the best striker in Mario Strikers Battle League, with incredible technique and the right amount of speed.
Messi, Ronaldo, Zola, and Luigi – the striking greats never cease to amaze me!
Ok, so I know that Yoshi has better shooting skills, but that’s why he makes such a good midfielder, shooting from that halfway line and finding the back of the net.
Luigi is quick; he can perform instant passes with Yoshi and has the technique to curl the ball into the goal from different angles.
And the other thing I love about Luigi is that, if anyone is going to pull off a successful hyper strike, it’s him. With his great technique, the blue areas in his power bar are incredibly wide.
In short, if you mess up that hyper strike, you should probably just immediately bin your Nintendo Switch.
